Cutting-edge systems for single cell research – from single cell gene editing to drug research and toxicology.

AFM solutions such as single cell and microbe force spectroscopy measurements

Explore all FluidFM applications.

Cytosurge offers two distinct FluidFM product families. Although it might seem they overlap in functionality, they are tailored to very different fields and research approaches:
AFM Series, tailored to Biophysics, Physics and Engineering.

BIO Series, designed for experiments in Biology, Pharmacology and Toxicology.

            AFM Series: When?

The AFM Series allows a precise quantification of mechanic properties of cells and microscopic particles such as colloids, which makes it an optimal tool for biophysicists, physicists and engineers interested in force spectroscopy measurements or AFM data. Since it is tailored to specific AFM systems, the user can benefit from access to all AFM available modes.
As an extension to classical AFM, the force resolution is 10 times higher than with the BIO Series (e.g. 100 pN noise AFM Series vs. 1 nN BIO Series). Because the system easily allows modifications (full hardware access, scripts, countless parameters and settings, etc.), it is ideal to explore already existing methods or develop new ones. If you already have a compatible AFM, the AFM Series will assure a fast and affordable entry into the world of FluidFM.

            BIO Series: When?

The BIO Series enable easy single cell manipulation, from injecting specific vectors or drugs into adherent cells to isolating them for further applications. With focus on ease and usability, the solution was designed for molecular and cell biologists, biochemists and pharmacologists. Typical experimental outputs are cell-based assays at a single-cell level, as well as the analysis of the sample through PCR, gene sequencing or time-course imaging of the manipulated cells in a controlled environment
Thanks to temperature control, CO2 control, and direct compatibility with standard well-plates the BIO Series offers a much higher throughput for isolation and injection e.g. injection of 2000 cells/day, compared to 100 cell/day with AFM Series. The complete system is controlled with one software (ARYA), which features with Point & Click handling of all typical experiments and offers automated workflows. This makes it easy to get successful and reproducible results, fast.

When can I use either Series?

Both series allow to create structures with nano- and micrometer features in 2D, which can be later analyzed by SEM and AFM. For this application the AFM series offers built-in AFM measurements and finer movement control (<10 nm). The BIO series instead offers higher throughput printing, a larger accessible area and sample geometry, and an easy set-up and handling.
